It’s your turn to elevate your career!

We will be holding a virtual Senior Member Elevation Rodeo on Thursday, November 5th from 5:30-7:00 PM. If you are an IEEE member who may be eligible for Senior Member elevation (see requirements below), come to the Rodeo, and we will walk you through the process and provide the required references for you!

WHO: IEEE members eligible for elevation to IEEE Senior Member rank.

WHAT: CS, ED/PHO, MTT-S/APS, WIE, and YP are leading an IEEE Senior Member elevation rodeo. 

Requirements to qualify for Senior Member:

  • Be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in the fields of engineering, computer sciences and information technology, physical sciences, biological and medical sciences, mathematics, technical communications, education, management, law and policy.
  • 10 years of professional experience, time in school counts as 3, 4, or 5 (bachelors, masters, doctorate) of those years.
  • Five years of “significant” performance, which can be: Substantial engineering responsibility or achievement (team leader, task supervisor, program manager, etc.); Publication of papers/books/inventions; Technical direction/management with evidence of accomplishment; Recognized contributions to the welfare of the profession; Development or furtherance of scientific/engineering courses; or Contributions equivalent to those above in such areas as technical editing, patent prosecution or patent law.

HOW: You will need three Senior, Fellow, or Honorary Members to nominate and provide a reference for you – we will find people to serve as references for you!

  • Update your resume, CV, or promotion vita, so you can upload it with your application.
  • During the rodeo, complete the online membership application and enter the references’ IEEE member numbers (these will be given to you at the Rodeo).
  • References will then receive an email asking them to submit their reference, which they can do immediately. We will ask all references to complete and submit the reference within 2 weeks of the Rodeo. Some will even finish them that day!
  • After you submit your application and your references are submitted, the IEEE Admission and Advancement Review Panel (which meets six times per year) will review your application and let you know if you’ve been elevated to Senior Member.
  • Yes, it’s really that simple!

WHY: First of all, active participation in professional societies is strongly encouraged by many employers, with service and outreach being a requirement for career progression. Additionally, you will receive the following benefits:
