Mentorship Program for Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship
IEEE MVSR SB has conducted a webinar on 06th September 2020 which is a “Mentorship program for Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship". The main motto of the event is to give a clear idea about student scholarship and to give insights in how to apply for the scholarship.
Mr. N. Avinash, Chairperson, IEEE MVSR SB has commenced the session by welcoming speaker, Ms. R. Ramya Sri, Richard E. Merwin Student Scholar, Former Chair, IEEE MVSR SB, Young Professional, Dr. D. Hari Krishna, Student Branch Counsellor, IEEE MVSR SB, Executive Committee and all other attendees to the session. Later, Dr. D Hari Krishna, Student Branch Counsellor, IEEE MVSR SB addressed the gathering, introduced the speaker and handed over the session to the speaker.
Ms. R. Ramya Sri has begun her talk by giving an introduction about the Richard E. Merwin Student Scholarship and started explaining that IEEE CS offers many scholarships and REM is a prestigious award among them. She added to it that REM Student Scholarship is to recognize and reward the student leadership. She further detailed the eligibility criteria which included the required grade points, membership of IEEE CS for at least 3 months prior to the application deadline, has to be a full-time student in his or her academic institution during the course of the award and must not be a REM scholar in the previous year.
Later, she explained the Evaluation criteria which included Participation in IEEE Student Branch/ Chapter activities (30%), Academic activities/Grades/Publications/Awards (30%), Extracurricular Activities (10%), Letter of Recommendation from Student Branch or Student Chapter Advisor (20%), Student Ambassador Vision statement (10%). She further specified the transcripts and the GPA requirement for it.
Further, she gave detailed information about the Letter of Recommendation(s) and things not to include such as High School Transcripts, CV, etc. Later, she gave concise details about REM Recognition and Rewards like Monetary Award, Recognition on Computer.org and Press release, Student Ambassador.Then, she illustrated the Student Ambassador Mentoring, wherein Former Ambassadors serve as mentors and support new awardees and guide them to new IEEE activities.
Later, the speaker demonstrated the application process in a detailed manner. She mentioned that the applicant can either upload a file or give details through a text box.
