Recent Trends in Phased Arrays for Radar.
Md K.M Chisti Welcomed the participants. Dr. SLN, Chair, IEEE Vizag Bay Section addressed members about the benefits of IEEE membership and future activities of IEEE Vizag Bay Section. Dr. Dr Lakshminarayana Merugu discussed Traditional radars that use reflector antennas, servo systems that steer the antenna beam for the required spatial coverage. He discussed the development of antenna and semiconductor technologies, the use of phased arrays to avoid mechanical scanning. His talk is more on the various architectures of phased arrays to show state-of-the-art developments and efforts towards reduction of cost retaining/improving the technical performance.

Biography:
Dr. M Lakshminarayana did B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from JNTU Hyderabad, M. Tech in Microwave and Radar Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, Ph. D from the Queen's University of Belfast, United Kingdom (U. K) on a Commonwealth Fellowship. He has a total of 39 years' experience. Joined Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), DRDO, in Jan 1981 and superannuated as Scientist-H in April 2015. For 34 years in DRDO, he immensely contributed towards the indigenous development of Electronic Warfare projects/programs. Responsible for execution of Electronic Warfare Projects / Programs as Project Director, Associate Program Director, and Program Director of various projects for Army, Navy, and Air Force. After his DRDO Services, he worked as Professor in ECE & Principal of Kshatriya College of Engineering, Telangana, from May 2015 till Aug 2017. Presently, he is Director R&D with Unistring Tech Solutions, Hyderabad & Adjunct Professor, Bharat Institute of Engineering and Technology (BIET), Hyderabad. Dr. Lakshminarayana has more than thirty publications in National and International Conferences and Journals. Two scholars were awarded Ph.D. degree under my guidance. Dr Lakshminarayana is associated with many Professional Societies (IETE, IE, IEEE, ACM, and AOC) for the last 23 years. During 1997-2006, as Fellow IETE, he served IETE Hyderabad Centre as Hon. Treasurer, Hon. Secretary and Vice-Chairman. From 2008 to 2015, He Volunteered IEEE Hyderabad Section as Secretary, Chairman of MTT/AP/EMC Joint Chapter, Vice Chairman of IEEE Hyderabad Section. He was the Chairman of the IEEE Hyderabad Section from Jan 2016 to Dec 2017. Dr Lakshminarayana is a Senior Member of IEEE and a recipient of IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific) Outstanding Volunteer Award.
