Rich Nute, IEEE Life Fellow

Topic:

Hazardous Live and Limited Current Source

Various IEC safety standards describe in detail the safety requirements for “SELV.”  However, while acknowledging the concept of a “limited current source,” these same standards rarely describe the requirements for such a source.  This paper defines “hazardous live” parts and demonstrates how a limited current source is the current equivalent of a limited voltage source (SELV).

Biography:

Richard Nute has been in product safety since 1973. He is co-author of “Hazard Based Safety Engineering” and author of the “Technically Speaking” column in the Product Safety Newsletter and “In Compliance” magazine. B.S. in Physical Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California. He has presented papers at the annual IEEE International Symposium on Product Compliance Engineering.

He has been a member of the PSES Board of Directors, IEC TC108 HBSDT, USTAG TC108, and ECMA TC12.
