The Technical Talk was completed with all its grandeur through virtual meeting via CISCO WebEx Meeting on 24^th October 2020. The talk delivered by Mr Siva Rama Krishna, Technical Project Manager, OCADO, United Kingdom. The talk was presided over by Dr T. S. N. Murthy, Chair, COMSOC/SPS Joint Chapter, IEEE Vizag Bay Section, Dr VVSSS Chakravarthy, Vice-Chair COMSOC/SPS Joint Chapter and Dr Lakshmi Narayana Sadasivuni, Chair, IEEE Vizag Bay Section. The technical session witnessed an overwhelming participation of around 50 IEEE members / non-IEEE members.

Dr T. S. N. Murthy, Chair, welcomed all the members for the technical talk organized by COMSOC/SPS Joint Chapter. He welcomed the guest Mr Sri Siva Rama Krishna, Technical Project Manager, OCADO, United Kingdom. Dr S. Lakshminarayana, Chair, IEEE Vizag Section conveyed best wishes to Mr Sri Siva Rama Krishna and briefed about the IEEE Vizag Bay Section. Dr VVSSS Chakravarthy, Vice-Chair introduced the guest with his brief bio-data. Dr T. S. N. Murthy, Chair, invited Mr Sri Siva Rama Krishna to deliver the technical talk on “Fundamentals of 5G architecture and Use Cases”.

The summary of the talk is as follows.

In his speech, he covered the topics 5G Architecture and how it's different from its predecessor i.e. 4G. i.e. 3GP RAN Architectures: E-UTRAN for 4G and NG-RAN for 5G. He gave an overview of radio frame architectures of 4G and 5G, and radio access protocols for 5G. After presenting the basic concepts he presented the LTE for Avionics i.e. overview of Thales Air2Ground Project. Thereafter, he covered the concept of Private LTE Network use case i.e. LTE for Groceries where the OCADO is currently developing. During his talk, he also covered the key innovations/ Developments behind 5G and ongoing research areas in 5G & beyond. He also highlighted the Private Cellular Network to Power the Future of Industry 4.0.  he also highlighted the following points. With the roll-out of 5G set to begin its early stages in 2019, this will help private networks to evolve from a niche solution to a mass-market proposition by addressing the shortcomings of 4G. Next-generation 5G connectivity offers incredibly low latency, along with the ability to transfer large amounts of data at high speeds. Whether upgrading from a private Wi-Fi or 4G network, businesses will be able to boost data capacity and performance with a private 5G network. This means that there is a huge opportunity for CSPs to develop private 5G networks in partnership with enterprise organizations, powering the future of Industry 4.0. During his talk, he showed how Ocado Smart Platform (OSP) provide the solutions for operating online grocery businesses.  

The session by Mr Sri Siva Rama Krishna was truly inspirational. The brief interaction with him provided insights on LTE and 5G. His professional journey and his achievements in the field of research in LTE and 5G motivated the audience.

After completion of the talk, Mr Siva Rama Krishna answered all the questions raised by the audience. The official meeting was concluded at 8:30 PM with the Vote of thanks delivered by Dr T. S. N. Murthy and Dr VVSSS Chakravarthy.
