Deepak Ramasubramanian

Biography:

He is currently an Engineer Scientist III at the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). His work at EPRI includes development of new and improved mathematical models and processes, for the large electric power system, to represent the behavior of inverter interfaced generation sources, and loads, and evaluation and development of transmission planning criteria including uncertainty of sources and loads.

He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in 2017 from the Arizona State University (ASU), Tempe, USA in the Power Systems stream. In his doctoral thesis, he investigated the impact of converter interfaced generation on the performance of the bulk power system with regard to transient stability and voltage stability. A result of his thesis has been the development of robust mathematical models for converter interfaced generation and load for use in positive sequence time domain simulations of large power systems.

He obtained his Master of Technology (M.Tech.) degree in 2013 from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), New Delhi, India obtaining a Perfect Ten Gold Medal along with a POSOCO power system award for his thesis being among the top 10 in India.

He is the recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 2016 North American Power Symposium (NAPS) and has also been awarded an Outstanding Graduate Student Award by the North American SynchroPhasor Initiative (NASPI). He is the past Co-Chair of the IEEE PES ASU Student Chapter.
