Join us for a presentation on Distributed Energy Resources and Electric Power Systems Interfaces and Energy as a Service EaaS.

We will discuss:

  • The technical specifications for, and the testing of, the interconnection and interoperability between utility electric power systems (EPS) and distributed energy resources (DER)
  • Requirements relevant to performance, operation, testing, safety and maintenance (interconnection)
  • Abnormal conditions regarding power quality, islanding, test specifications
  • Design, production, installation evaluation, commissioning and periodic testing
  • Interconnections with synchronous machines, induction machines, power inverters
  • Criteria and requirements connecting the Power Grid (EPS) with the Microgrid (DER) on voltages
  • Energy as a Service (EaaS)

Steve Pullins Steve Pullins of SVP, CTO at AlphaStruxure

Topic:

Steve Pullins

AlphaStruxure delivers an on-site energy system (Microgrid) for energy intensive and energy sensitive customers via an Energy-as-a-Service business model, meaning a system provided without the need for customer capital investment that includes guaranteed performance. This system serves the customer’s multiple objectives around cost stability and predictability, improved sustainability, improved resilience, and improved reliability of energy supply.

Biography:

Mr. Pullins has more than 40 years of utility industry experience in operations, maintenance, engineering, microgrids, and renewables project development. He has designed more than 60 Microgrids for various customers and utilities. He previously led the nation’s Modern Grid Strategy for DOE’s National Energy Technology Laboratory. He has worked with more than 20 utilities in Smart Grid strategies, renewables strategies, power system optimization with Smart Grid technologies, and microgrids. He has advised several international utility and government organizations on Smart Grid technologies and operations, microgrid development, integrating intelligence, new power generation, and waste to energy issues.

Topic:

Tim Callahan

AMSC DVAR VVO Project

Biography:

Tim Callahan received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Hartford. Tim has over thirty years’ experience in the electric utility industry and is an active member of the IEEE PES Connecticut Chapter. Tim’s current position with Eversource Energy is Senior Engineer in the Engineering Standards Group. Tim’s focus is developing and implementing Standards for Distribution Automation (Smart Grid). Tim is also developing and implementing Standards for leased line, Power Line Carrier (PLC), unlicensed spread spectrum radio and Fiber Optic for Distributed Generation Transfer Trip schemes. A more recent initiative, Volt Var Optimization (VVO) deployment, is another initiative Tim is currently working on. The VVO Initiative will help integrate more renewable energy onto the electrical distribution system.
