GLAMMOURFEMME which was held on the 11th July 2020 was organized by the  Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of the IEEE Student Branch of Sri  Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). The event was indeed  glamorous and immensely successful in focusing on how important the role of a  woman is in the field of Engineering (Electrical and Electronics, Civil, Mechanical  and Mechatronics) and in the field of Information Technology.

The panel discussion based event on an online platform started off with the  Chairperson of the WIE Student Branch Nuwanthi Abeygunawardena, warmly  welcoming everyone gathered at the event. Next, the Moderator, also the Past  Chairperson of the WIE Student Branch, Vinuri Ramanayake warmly welcomed  and introduced the guest speakers of the event, Dr.Windhya Rankothage  (Secretary of IEEE Sri Lanka Section – Senior Lecturer, Sri Lanka Institute of  Information Technology), Dr.Shayani Mendis (PhD in Civil Engineering – Senior  Lecturer, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology) and last but not least,  Ms.Heshani Mahalaksha (MSc in Electrical Engineering – Electrical Engineer at  Ceylon Electricity Board).

Thereafter, the guest speakers engaged in two question rounds, giving an  insight of their fields of specialization to the participants. Participants were  allowed to ask questions of their desire through a link provided during the  discussion. The session was conducted in two question rounds. The first  question round was on the personal experience in their respective field and the  challenges they have come across as a woman. The questions were asked in a  parallel sequence. In the second question round the available opportunities for  the participants in their fields and their piece of advice to the participants who  are hoping to choose the respective fields were discussed.

Once the panel discussion was completed, the questions provided by the  participants were directed to our guest speakers. Once the Q and A session was  done, the event was successfully concluded with the vote of thanks by the  secretary of the WIE Affinity Group of SLIIT, Rizma Nalmi. Feedback forms were  given to the participants in order to make improvements for future events done  by WIE.

The WIE Affinity group of IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT held GLAMMOURFEMME  2020 in order to spread awareness and focus on the role of a woman, as well as  a man, in the field of Engineering and Information Technology. The feedback  from the participants showed that the overall objectives of this workshop were  achieved. The expected participation was overall an immense success and this  rare opportunity of sharing personal experience of the industry experts was able  to build confidence, especially among female undergraduates. Under the  guidance of seniors and group advisors, this event was a success.

In conclusion, it is with great pleasure that the Women in Engineering (WIE)  Affinity Group of the IEEE Student Branch of Sri Lanka Institute of Information  Technology (SLIIT) declare this event extremely successful and beneficial.
