We are witnessing rapid advancement in disruptive technology such as IoT, 5G, AI, security, Blockchain, and others that will enable building new smart solutions in multiple vertical markets for smart society.

IoT has multiple billions of sensors and devices and promised to grow to 50 billion in the coming years, 5G has started in 2020 offering high performance, low latency, and richness of feature. In contrast to previous cellular generations, 5G is supporting multiple use cases in several markets such as healthcare, mobility, energy, public safety, smart homes/building,s and smart cities.

As the volume of data continues to grow exponentially, new AI/ML/DL tools, algorithms are being developed and deployed to make the data actionable and generate insightful information for a better decision.

These advancements and progress usher new opportunities in the technical research areas and innovative approaches aimed to advance the adoption of Technology in improving business processes, quality of life, and sustainability.

The talk will highlight examples of both technology and applications with the hope of inspiring students of the greater future lying ahead.

Biography:

Fawzi is a visionary, thought leader, author, and contributor in advancing the adoption of technology in serving humanity. Fawzi spent over 35 years in the industry and held various executive and leadership positions with Tier 1 companies in the areas of communications & networks spanning Semiconductor, communication systems, and service providers. Fawzi was a principal architect and championed the definition and the development of a nation-wide integrated IoT telecom sensing-analytics system and networking management solution complied to ITU TMN M3.000 at global carrier Teleglobe Canada. He was a senior product manager with Nortel Networks for enterprise broadband edge and core product releases. Fawzi, also served as the Director of Strategic Marketing with Motorola/Freescale for SoC networking & Communications product line in Austin. Fawzi founded TelNet Management Consulting Inc. in 2009 offering consulting services in the areas of technology trends, positioning, and development of smart networking ecosystem solutions. Fawzi is a senior member of IEEE, Distinguished Lecturer, and IEEE ComSoc Regional Director for North America Board (2020-2021) and chairing several society chapters (ComSoc, Signal Processing, Computer, EMB, Cons Elec.). Fawzi is the chair for WCNC 2022 and has organized several events such as smart city summit (2019), Blockchain for Healthcare (2018) and Greentech of Smart Cities (2018), and Advanced Technologies in Healthcare (2017). Fawzi has been a keynote speaker at several conferences, distinguished lecturer at different domestic and international events, and organized panel sessions at Globecom, ICC, Himss, BHI, Smart connected cities, Enterprise IoT, and others. He has several publications and co-authored a book on "Collaborative Internet of Things for Future Smart Connected Life and Business" published by Wiley. 

Fawzi was the recipient of several awards from Industry and IEEE. Freescale CEO Diamond Chip Award in 2008, and IEEE Communications Society Chapter Achievement and Chapter of the year awards in 2015 and 2017, Outstanding Region 5 member award for 2013, 2014, and 2015. Most recently, Fawzi received IEEE USA Regional Professional Leadership Award in 2018 and Outstanding Large section and Section Visionary chair for 2018-2019.

Fawzi holds a Bachelor of Science with honors and distinction from Concordia University, Montreal; Masters in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, Ontario and an Executive MBA from Queen’s University, Ontario Canada.
