IEEE ACT Section ExCom Meeting
The first of the series of Excom meetings of the IEEE Australian Capital Territory Section was held on 18 February 2021.
The next meetings planned for every second Tuesday or Wednesday every second month starting from April 2021.

Ambarish – looking to do more f2f meetings/activities this year. Kathryn will look into using ADFA campus for next meeting. Ambarish encouraging industry visits to restart.

2021 IEEE Region 10 Virtual Meet
Date: 6 March 2021 and 7 March 2021 (Saturday and Sunday)
Time: Tentatively 7:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. (UTC +5.30 / India Standard Time)
- Australia Council Update
New coordinators appointed as requested by R10. Life member coordinator (Dale Siver). Education activities coordinator – schools and universities (Fouad). Student activities coordinator (Atiqul Islam).
- Treasurer's Report and Section Budget
Russell Gentle / Financial report
$16K in main account and $10K in term deposit. We get a significant rebate when our financial reporting is done early, based on membership numbers, which will bring our balance approx. 33K. Other awards for being an active section have also contributed.
With covid restrictions relaxing, we are looking to use these funds for the benefit of members.

481 members in the ACT, a few more including local areas. Low student member numbers (15). An opportunity for recruitment. Jeta to add details to the Section website.

- Life Member Co-ordinator Appointment: Dale Siver Nomination Received . Dale is a life member.

- Chapter Chairs Reports
Reminder: Minimum two activities per Chapter or group is required to maintain “Active Status”. 10 events per year significantly increases the financial rebate. Must be advertised to section members and free to attend.
- Antennas and Propagation: David Powell
- Computer: Anthony Jones. 4 events planned for the year + O-week representation + social media presence
- Joint Photos and EDS : Ziyuan Li – DL presentation planned in May. Student membership drive planned. Please submit a budget first for approval.
- Joint Signal Processing and Communications : Fei Ma – Working in acoustics; intending to do some interviews of 1st year PhD students
- Geoscience and Remote Sensing: Xiuping Jia – Small chapter, need to promote membership and/or work with other chapters. Usually aim for August and November activities, may aim earlier this year.
- Nanotechnology Council : Hoe Tan – ARC Centre of Excellence awarded at ANU in the area of nano-tech. 7 years, involving 5 universities. Needs to include outreach. Will tap into this for the chapter.
- Systems, Man and Cybernetics : Fangbao Tian
- Computational Intelligence: Hemant Singh – Aiming to assemble a team again and meet more regularly. Organised AJCAI, SSCI last year. Working on CEC this year.
- WIE Affinity Group: Jihui Zhang -
- Young Professionals Affinity Group: Chathurika Mediwaththe – will work with WIE
- GRSS Student Chapter Update: Jue Zhang – Seminars the likely events.
- TISP Co-ordinator : Fouad Karouta – STEM activities at Telopia primary school planned. CMA conference should run – will attend. Ross interested in approaching minister.

Website now has new excom members (individual details can be added), section history. Ambarish suggested to look at Australia Council Website as well. Can post AGM photos. Have an IEEE ACT gmail account. Can be used as a file repository. 2 newsletters per year.
- AOB
Meetings every 2 months, 2nd week of the month on a Wed or Thurs. This is before Australia Council meeting which happens every 3rd week of every second month. Need to send a report to that meeting, so this gives time to prepare a report.
