Data Science Study, Research, and Applications
Abstract
Data science has become a hot area in recent years and related jobs continue to be in high demand in all industries. It already widely impacts our daily life ranging from shopping, entertainment, transportation, healthcare, finance, security, weather forecast, to social media and internet visits. In this talk, Dr. Huang will give an overview of data science - an interdisciplinary field that combines programming, algorithms, database, data mining, machine learning, statistics, data visualization, and domain knowledge. In order to prepare for a career in data science, Dr. Huang will discuss what courses and skills students should learn at school and give some suggestions based on his teaching experiences. He will also present the current popular research areas and show some of his research results and student projects. Applications and several real stories in data science will be discussed and future trends will be covered to conclude his talk.
