Toycathon 2021 "AatmaNirbhar Bharat"
Toycathon-2021 is conceived to challenge India’s innovative minds to conceptualize novel Toy and Games based on Bharatiya civilization, history, culture, mythology and ethos. Toycathon 2021 is an inter-ministerial initiative organized by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell with support from All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Textiles and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Institute Innovation Council of College (IIC-CCSIT) promotes the event among its faculties and students as it is providing the platform to showcase the talents of developing toys that ensure learning while playing.
To motivate the students, IIC-CCSIT organizes the display of various video lectures given by experts in the relevant domain conducted by the AICTE. After the launch of Toycathon 2021 the first lecture was held on 11th Jan 2021 by Shri. Arvind Gupta, who is popularly also called Toyman of India. He demonstrates the various toys that could be easily created from the trash. He asks the teachers to demonstrate the concepts of physics using examples more specifically toys so that students could grasp the concept faster. Also he cited the example from book “Joy of Making Indian Toys” by Sudarshan Khanna.
Second lecture in the series was held on 12th Jan 2021 taken by Dr. Abhay Jere, Chief Innovation Officer, MIC, Ministry of Education. He discusses about Toycathon, how the idea was emerged and what the benefits of conducting such hackathons. He lists the various areas such as boosting physical and mental fitness, Toys for specially-abled / Divyanga Children, focus on Indian culture, heritage and Vedic mathematics etc. on which Toyacathon 2021 majorly focused. He also discuss about the three different tracks that allows participation from school students to research scholars as well the startups.
Prof. Shrikant Bahulkar, Chief Investigator, Bhagavata Purana Project, Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) was the resource person in third online session held on 13th Jan 2021 about “Toys from Vedas”. Prof started discussion from Vedas and various aspects of knowledge associated with them. He briefly discusses about various deities related to nature and most important one was Agni in vedic culture. He mentioned about 14 vidyas and 64 Arts forms given in Vedas and how one should attain them. He narrated that lack of toys based on ancient figures in market as a result children’s are not able to associate with their rich cultural heritage. He pressurized on deriving and using concepts from Vedas to develop educative toys that allow us to bind children’s with our culture.
Online session held on 18th Jan 2021, Prof. Sudarshan Khanna and Prof. Surabhi Khanna were the resource persons. Prof. Surabhi starts the discussion by narrating a small story about her father who designs a stick like cigarette but on blowing it generates different color flowers. Prof. Sudarshan Khanna, in his discussion said that he saw a toy which was unique and attractive at one of the International Airport in Europe for Six Euro but he was not able to purchase but after six months he found the same toy in Ahmadabad for Rs. 30, which was the power of local development. He discusses about various toy ideas and consultancy provided by them to NGO for developing low cost toys.
Prof. Manish Jain from Center for Creative Learning, IIT Gandhinagar is the resource person for online session conduted as part of Toycathon 2021 on 19th Jan 2021. He works in development of the very simple toys in association with Shri. Arvind Gupta. He says the purpose of Toycathon is to bring back gleam back in the eyes of children’s and says Toys are not only for Childs but also for adults. He said that role of toys is to make learning simple and interesting developed from simple things. He gives certain demos of simple toys that could make the leaning and understanding of science concepts in children easy.
On 20th Jan 2021, Dr. Mohit Gambhir tooks an online session to give details about the procedure and guidelines of Toycathon 2021. He also resolves the general queries regarding participation and other relevant issues related to event.

Biography:
Prof. Dr. Shrikant. S. Bahulkar has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Sanskrit for more than 40 years, during which time he has been engaged in a variety of research projects. Both his research and teaching focus on Vedic Studies, Buddhist Studies, Ayurveda, and Classical Sanskrit Literature. He worked with various universities and institutes in India and abroad. He has written and edited 12 books and published about 60 research and popular articles. Presently he is working on a number of research projects pertaining to Vedic, classical Sanskrit and Buddhist Sanskrit texts.
