NASA Canberra Deep Space Communications Complex Visit
IEEE Australian Capital Territory Section is inviting its members, especially students and young professionals to a tour of the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex.
The facility is a part of NASA's Deep Space Network which provides 24/7 two-way contact with dozens of robotic spacecraft exploring the solar system and beyond.
Our guide will be their science communicator, Glen Nagle who will share with us details about the role of the Complex, the missions it supports (including NASA's latest Mars rover called Perseverance) and discuss with us about the many engineering and technical roles that exist at the facility. He will also speak about some of the challenges being faced in space exploration and the career paths that lead to opportunities in the space industry.
We will also be able to see great views to the largest antenna dishes in the southern hemisphere which daily communicate with spacecraft hundreds of millions, to many billions of kilometres from Earth.
The Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex is managed on NASA's behalf by Australia's national science agency, CSIRO.
