As a celebration of PES day 2021, IEEE IUT student branch in association with IEEE Robotics and Automation society, IUT Student Chapter hosted a webinar titled “Smart Grid: Status and Prospects in Bangladesh.” The event raised curtains on 11th April 2021, educating the tech enthusiasts why it is the right time to switch to smart grid and what are the important aspects to ponder over regarding the clean energy revolution.

The keynote speaker of the webinar was Dr. Taskin Jamal, Assistant Professor at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering. This enlightening and informative event was inaugurated by Dr. Md. Ashraful Hoque, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Islamic University of Technology. Alongside, Dr. Rakibul Hasan Sagor, Associate Professor at Department of EEE, Islamic University of Technology and also the counselor of IEEE IUT SB coordinated the webinar.

Dr Taskin not only decoded the fundamentals of smart grid but also enlightened the keen attendees with the prospect of this technology for Bangladesh in the upcoming years. He cleared the doubts of the participants regarding the adoption process of this technology, it’s pros and cons, the obstacles that might hinder the implementations and penetration into the current market, as well as suggested probable solutions and policies for the drawbacks.

The webinar received a huge amount of response and managed to create buzz amongst the participants, not only from the host country, Bangladesh, but also from Philippines, Egypt and other parts of the globe. Around 150 attendees including students, professionals, educators from 25 different institutions of home and abroad actively took part in the seminar.

 After the presentation, Dr. Taskin Jamal answered the questions that were asked by the participants, hence making the session more interactive. The Session was made more fruitful with this one-to-one interaction between the speaker and the audience.

Finally, IEEE IUT Student Branch Chair, Ahmad Jarif Yeasir introduced Sanzana Tabassum, Ambassador of PES Day 2021 from IEEE IUT SB reiterated the motive and background of the occasion. In addition, she also appreciated the students for their successful participation and achievements in different contests held under the banner of the PES Day 2021. Biography:

Dr. Taskin Jamal is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of
Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in
Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has received his Ph.D. in Renewable Energy in 2019 from Murdoch
University, Australia and Master’s in Energy in 2012 from the Asian Institute of Technology
(AIT), Thailand achieving the “Best Student” award. His undergraduate degree is in Electrical
and Electronic Engineering from Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Bangladesh. Due to
his vivid academic career, throughout his student life he was awarded with many scholarships
such as IUT-OIC scholarship, Japanese Govt. scholarship, KFUPM scholarship, IPRS and
APA scholarships in Australia. He was also awarded with few IEEE grants to present his
research works in prestigious IEEE conferences. Dr. Taskin was the Australian National
Finalist in the first ever ClimateLaunchpad event organised by Climate-KIC Australia. He has
a vast collaborative research, teaching and consultation experience in the fields of Renewable
Energy and Electric Power Systems since 2009. He has in his name a good number of research
articles published in reputed international journals and conference proceedings. He is serving
as an editor and reviewer of many high impact factor journals and as a technical committee
member of many reputed conferences worldwide. Over the last ten years he has taught in
different universities in Australia, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. He is also a Senior
Member of IEEE, Member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society and the Electric Energy
Society of Australia. He was elected as the Chairperson of IEEE Murdoch University Student
Branch in 2016. His hobby includes extreme sports, travelling and nature photography.
