Karen Ulferts of A Drone of Her Own
Unmanned Vehicle Systems
Karen Ulferts, president of the Lone Star Chapter of the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), will present an overview of the AUVSI and the issues of drones and other unmanned systems relevant to Texas. Karen will provide examples of their usage and both non-profit and for-profit business ventures.
Biography:
Karen Ulferts has been involved with the Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) since joining the Lone Star Chapter as Secretary in 2007 and is now the Chapter President. AUVSI (AUVSI.org) is an international organization of unmanned systems enthusiasts and activists from the private, commercial, and government sectors. Karen's primary organization role is that of quality assurance representative (QAR) specializing in defense and military software quality standards, ISO 9001:2008, IEEE 12207, and commercial (IBM, CMMI) systems and software quality requirements.
She has a bachelors and masters degree of science in Industrial Engineering from the University of Tennessee and has published various papers on commercial best practices for software process improvement including quality assurance. Karen recently formed an LLC "A Drone of Her Own" to focus upon the usage of robotics and unmanned systems from a woman's perspective.

The Consultants Network meets monthly. Except when meeting jointly with other groups, the Consultants Network meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Meetings usually begin with informal networking from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m., followed by presentations from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. by experts in technology, marketing, sales, advertising, financial or legal needs of small businesses and special needs of consultants.
