INAUGURATION OF WIE STB GROUP (SBA01024)
It was an absolute honour and joyous moment for JNTUK-UCEV to celebrate the inauguration ceremony of “IEEE Women in Engineering Student Branch Affinity Group" on May 6, 2021 in virtual mode on the embarking of their journey with the very first elected executive committee members (Karri Kamala Priya ,Kandalam Venkata Godavari SriVidya ,Singamsetti Taraka Swathi , Alaina Anand Nekuri ).
P.Mani Krishna, Chair, IEEE STB started the meeting by Inviting guests and gave a Brief report on our IEEE STB . Our Branch Counsellor Dr.TSN Murthy, cordially greeted the Chief Guest,Faculty members and participants. Our Branch Advisor Prof.Dr.G Jaya Suma ,Convener WE&GC, gave details regarding Women Empowerment & Grievances Cell. Prof.Dr.R Rajeswara Rao, Vice Principal JNTUK-UCEV appreciated our STB,reminded the quote “Women are the architect of the society” and discussed few points regarding the statistics of women education in our country. S.Vivek, Secretary, IEEE STB gave an introduction of our Chief Guest Prof.Dr. Celia Shahnaz.
The program was glorified with the presence of Prof.Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Chair of IEEE Bangladesh Section and Professor of EEE department of BUET who officially inaugurated the WIE STB AG with the help of a ppt and gave an amazing lecture. She made supportive guidance and enlightening remarks regarding various IEEE activities, articles, achievements and papers.This lecture was followed by an address from Prof.G Jaya suma where she spoke about planning and seeking collaboration from Prof.Dr. Celia Shahnaz to technically empower women in our college. This was followed by a short Thanking note from K.Kamala Priya, Chair, WIE STB AG. The event was ended with the vote of thanks by S.Taraka Swathi, Secretary, WIE STB AG.

Prof.Dr. Celia Shahnaz
At first, Prof.Dr. Celia Shahnaz thanked the volunteers and congratulated the members of STB for the inauguration. She said that Women empowerment can be achieved through technological innovation & skill enhancement programs.She stated that people from small towns can also do great things, all depends on the merit we have but not from the place where we come from. She showed her citations in Google scholar and proved that the odds like this pandemic covid situation cannot affect our works if we are well determined .
Prof.Dr. Celia Shahnaz lecture included topics regarding (names are shortened)Pitch Estimation, Speech enhancement, Abnormality detection in musculoskeletal radio graphs, skin cancer, Detection of Tuberculosis,covid-19 from chest x-rays, Non-invasive blood glucose estimation, Jaundice detection, Heart rate measuring wrist card, Digital Stethoscope, Smart electric wheel chair, smart hat, mass vaccination with precise vein detection, EEG based electric wheel chair, Text to braille scanner, Image based sign language recognition for deaf and dumb, Automatic hand sanitizer. She Created awareness regarding IEEE SPS, IEEE PES, various workshops, competitions and encouraged us to collaborate with her and stated an inspiring sentence “I change the World. I am an Engineer”.
Biography:
Celia Shahnaz, SMIEEE, Fellow IEB, received Ph.D. degree from Concordia University, Canada and is currently a Professor, Department of EEE, BUET, Bangladesh since 2015. She has published more than 150 international journal/conference papers. She is a recipient of the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship/Fellowship and Bangladesh Academy of Science Gold Medal for her contribution in Science and Technology. Recently, her papers have received best paper awards in Biomedical Engineering tracks at TENCON 2017 and at IEEE WIECON-ECE 2016, in Humanitarian Challenge track at R10 HTC 2017. She was the mentor of 1st/2nd prize winning projects in IEEE IAS CMD Contests (Robotics, Humanitarian) in 2017-2019, USA. She was the supervisor of 4th/5th rank winning teams in SPCUP competitions, ICASSP 2020 (Spain)/2015 (Australia). She is the recipient of 2019 R10 Humanitarian Activities Outstanding Volunteer Award, 2016 MGA Leadership Award 2015 WIE Inspiring Member Award, 2013 R10 WIE Professional Volunteer Award. She is the Chair, IEEE Bangladesh Section, 2020 Member, IEEE New Initiative Committee 2020 Chair, Women in SIGHT Working Group, 2020-22 Member, IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Women in Signal Processing Committee, 2020 Member, 2018-19 Member, Technical Committee, Image, Video, and Multimedi(IVM), Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association (APSIPA), 2018 Editorial board member, IET Signal Processing, Founder & Chair, IEEE SPS, IAS Bangladesh Chapters, She has around 20 years of experience (more than 18 years as an IEEE volunteer) of leading impactful Technical, Professional, Educational, Industrial, Women Empowerment and Humanitarian Technology Projects at national/international levels.
