Engineers like to get their hands dirty and tinker with things during weekends after a busy week in order to relax. For retired engineer Terry Lawell, it is natural for him to spend more time on his hobby of fixing and restoring his own sports car. In this talk, he will tell his story of accidentally jumping into a new business of restoring and selling classic sports car and his system engineering approach to each unique project. Terry received the joy of completing each project and a little profit.

In this talk, he will tell his story of accidentally jumping into a new business of restoring and selling classic sports car and his system engineering approach to each unique project. Biography:
Terry Lawell joined Sperry/Univac as a Field Engineer in Houston after he completed his US Air Force duty in 1966. He ventured into the main frame computer field in Univac and Datapoint till 1978. He joined Motorola Semiconductor Austin in 1978 as Product Proposal Engineer in the Microprocessor Division. He later joined the design team as System Engineer and involved in developing the 68XX family and later the RISC Architecture 88K family Microprocessor as well as R&D in Neural Network and Vector computing. Terry moved to AMD for few years and then joined Cadence in 2000 as consultant for computer modeling and verification. He then joined Verilab, another design tools co. in 2005. Terry retired in 2010 from the chip related industry. He was awarded10 patents in communications and microprocessor architecture from his work at Motorola (7) and AMD (3). His hobby after retirement is to restore his old sports car.

The Austin Life Members Group meets monthly. Except when meeting jointly with other groups, the Life Members meet on the third Tuesday each month. Meetings usually begin with informal networking from 6:00 to 6:15 p.m., followed by presentations from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. by experts in topics of interest to IEEE Life Members. Our meetings are open to the public. We will be conducting virtual meeting from now to Aug 2021.
