PSE Outage Forecast Tool & Operationalizing Machine Learning
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has developed an outage forecasting tool using machine learning techniques in order to improve situational awareness to impending outage events which is intended to improve proactive measures for storm preparations. A cross functional team made up of Electric System Operations & Storm SMEs combined with an internal IT PM, Data Scientist and a Data Visualization Specialist to make sense of the data and information available in order to create the necessary historic relationships between weather & system impacts in order to produce predictions using the present weather forecasts. PSE is excited to see how this new tool will shape the awareness and proactive responses to weather events for this year’s upcoming storm season.
