John Harris of IEEE
Biography:
Dr. John Harris is a graduate of McMaster University (B.Eng and Ph.D.) and the university of Western Ontario (M.E.Sc.).
He is a Life Senior Member of IEEE in Hamilton Section. He has held every section officer position in London Section and Hamilton Section. He has been Hamilton Section webmaster since 2000.
He is chair of the IEEE Canada Life Members Committee. He was a member of the MGA Life Members Committee in 2020. He won the IEEE Canada Broughton award in 2021.
He spent most of his working career as a land-line telephone set designer. He did the last cost reduction on the electro-mechanical 500 set. He introduced the first electronic telephone set (in a 500 set housing). He introduced Caller-ID, ring tones and put a credit card reader in the payphone.
