Pre-College STEM Education for CyberPatriot Coaches and Mentors
The Air Force Association's CyberPatriot high and now middle school Cyber Defense Competition is now registering teams for its seventh competition, see: www.uscyberpatriot.org . While there were about 30 NJ Junior ROTC and other service related teams competing last year, there were only three NJ regular high school or Open Division teams that competed the competition last year. To help increase the number of regular high and now middle school teams register and compete successfully, the most successful NJ CyberPatriot teacher-coach has offered to provide
hands-on training to coach and/or mentor a CyberPatriot team.
Each team consists of a teacher/coach and two to six students. See a recent press release on a survey showing that CyberPatriot is attracting students to STEM and
Cybersecurity careers: http://higherlogicdownload.s3.amazonaws.com/AFA/6379b747-7730-4f82-9b45-a1c80d6c8fdb/UploadedImages/Press%20Releases/2014/July/CyberPatriot%20Survey%20Results.pdf .
Mandy Galante, Applied Technology Teacher, Red Bank Regional High School, has coached CyberPatriot teams since they were opened to all high school students. Her first CP-III team won the national competition and all of her teams have consistently been the top scoring Open Division teams in NJ. She has offered to give a presentation for teachers on how to coach a CyberPatriot team and get started for this fall. The presentation would include hands-on demonstrations with laptops to simulate what a competition looks like.
