Blockchain technologies and Applications
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida, organized a “Faculty Development Program (FDP)” in association with IEEE UP section on “Blockchain Technologies and Applications” from Dec. 28, 2020 to Jan. 02, 2021. It was organized so that the emerging technology of block chain can be immensely helpful for the research community, utility professionals and industry stakeholders as a major domain of interdisciplinary subject.
The Faculty Development Program was organised under the technical sponsorship of IEEE UP Section without any financial help from IEEE UP section.

Theme and objective:
Blockchain technology has surfaced as a disruptive and transformational technology over the past few years. The simple processes of blockchain have a great potential to completely revolutionize the existing socio-economical systems by providing secure transactions among untrusted entities at reduced cost. Blockchain is anticipated as a panacea for numerous challenging situations faced by businesses and industries of varied areas like IoT, social networking, health care, electronic voting telecommunications etc. This FDP aims to introduce the fundamentals of Blockchain Technology and its applications to solve real world problems.
This FDP endeavored to provide practical exposure to design and develop real life application for Ethereum based Smart Contract using Solidity Programming Language. Following areas were focused in the FDP-
• BlockchainTechnology and Bitcoin
• Blockchain Security and Cryptography
• Basic consensus mechanisms, Proof of Work and Decentralized Applications
• Smart Contract and Programming using Solidity
• Hyperledger Fabric, Chain code design
• Application development using Node Js and Java Script
• Cases studies in public, finance, healthcare, governance etc

The first session covered the Basics of Blockchain and its applications. The speaker
discussed bitcoin and problems with digital cash. The evolution of Blockchain Technology
from 1st generation to the highly scalable with high concurrency and the use of cryptography
in Blockchain was also mentioned. The challenges in working of Blockchain concerning
strength, weakness, opportunities, and Threats were also covered in the session. The session
covered some of the applications such as supply chain management. Th session was closed
by answering queries regarding the security aspects, storage, and requirement of blockchain,
how different blockchain can be connected.

Role of Consensus Protocols for Permission less and Permissioned Blockchains
The expert discussed that consensus protocol is the guarantee for the stable operation
of blockchain systems. Nodes agree on a certain value or transaction through the consensus
protocol. The session coverd the Role of Consensus Protocols for Permissionless and
Permissioned Blockchains. This session covered the permissionless consensus mechanism
such as proof of work (PoW), Proof of Stake (PoS), Proof of Elapsed time. The session also
covered the demo of using programming languages such as java and visual studio transaction
validation and verification in the blockchain.
