Disentangling What Changes Our Forests - Actional science to protect wild spaces
Dr. Joan Dudney tackles important questions: What impacts our natural systems locally and globally? How are humans shaping the disturbances experienced in our forested systems? How does severe drought impact various ecosystems, from mixed conifer to subalpine forests? Dr. Dudney seeks to answer these questions through various field-and lab-based approaches. She conducts research in many terrestrial ecosystems, including grasslands, mixed conifer, and high elevation forests, disentangling the complexity of an array of drivers such as infectious disease, pest outbreaks, invasive plants, and climate change.

Joan Dudney, Ph.D of UC Davis in the Latimer Lab
Biography:
Joan Dudney, Ph.D, is a Davis H. Smith Postdoctoral Fellow based at UC Davis in the Latimer Lab. She earned a Doctorate in Environmental Science, Policy and Management at UC Berkeley. She has been awarded some of the most prestigious fellowships in her field, including the National Science Foundation GRF and the Switzer Fellowship. Her work stands out for combining novel methodological approaches with long-term observational and experimental data to decode the complex, interacting, and often nonlinear relationships between plant communities and global change drivers, including pests, pathogens, drought, and fire.
