Biography:

Mike Doherty has served as the Technical Committee Chair of CSA Z462 – Workplace Electrical Safety since inception in 2006 until Dec. 2018 and continues to serve on the Technical Committee. He is the owner and President of Blue Arc Electrical Safety Technologies Inc. and also an independent consultant/ trainer for eHazard in Canada. Mike completed 31 years of work at Ontario Hydro / OPG in their diverse nuclear power generation facilities in 2007. He is the current Technical Committee Chair for CAN/ULC-S801-14-en - Standard On Electric Utility Workplace Electrical Safety for Generation, Transmission, and Distribution. Chair of the Association of Electrical Utility Safety Professionals (AEUSP) in Ontario for 2018 and 2019. Vice Chair for 2016 and 2017. Continues to serve as the current Past Chair. He is a licensed 449A electrician, Industrial Instrumentation Technician, Scientific Engineering Technician & H&S professional. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and an IEEE Petroleum & Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) Emeritus. Mike was the Secretary, Vice-Chair and Chair of the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshops in Denver (05), Philadelphia (06) and Calgary (07) respectively. Has consecutively participated in the last 21 IEEE Electrical Safety Workshops from 2001 to 2021. Presented many IEEE papers and tutorials on electrical safety. Mike was honored to be the 2013 recipient of the IEEE IAS Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee (PCIC) Electrical Safety Excellence Award in Chicago, IL. He was awarded the best safety paper at the NETA PowerTest Conference during February 27 – March 3, 2017, in Anaheim California. Recipient of the 2019 IEEE Electrical Safety Workshops Outstanding Service Award in Jacksonville Florida. It recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding administrative leadership and contributions in support of the Electrical Safety Committee, including activities of any of its subcommittees.
