Microwave ovens have become popular in the household many years ago. The advantage of rapid heating is obvious. However, in the more highly scaled area of industrial or scientific use, other challenges become apparent. Process safety, the avoidance of dangerous leakage radiation and energy efficiency are important keywords here. I will use some simple examples to explain the challenges of heating or drying different products and how we approach a solution from a scientific point of view with our expertise in high frequency technology and process analysis. Furthermore, an insight into the implementation in real projects will be presented.
