In contrast to the conventional machine learning techniques where features are extracted and are fed to classifiers, deep learning neural networks accept the signals and images as inputs and perform the classification through transfer learning. These networks use convolutional layers to extract the features, rectified linear units as activation functions, pooling layers to minimize the feature map, and a fully connected network to perform classification. The main takeaways of the presentation are a comprehensive understanding of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), applications of CNN for solving Real-World Problems and possible modifications on the conventional architecture, and comparing the classification capability.
