Excom minutes 15th April 2021

Meeting opened 7:15pm

Announcements

  1. Outstanding Volunteer Award 2019 - Prof. Daoyi Dong  (14 events + chapter established in 2019)
  2. Outstanding Volunteer Award 2021 - Prof. Lal Chand Godara for contributions in establishing the IEEE ACT Section and contributing towards the IEEE mission and vision.

Report from Chair

  1. ADFA happy to host other meetings this year
  2. R10 funding website: students, young professionals, wie, life member funding available. But ask the section first.
  3. Communication: Difficult to communicate with members who live in NSW – encourage to put work address on file, so they receive emails.

Report from Treasurer

  1. Funds are still healthy. Chapters encouraged to hold events/apply for funds. NB YP, WIE don’t need to have technical activities. Can be social. Eg clean up Australia event; bbq etc

Membership Development

  1. 411 members; 101 in arrears
  2. Has contacted minister for education regarding collaboration to advertise STEM; eg in schools; to teachers/students (message resonates with ACED priorities)

Professional Activities

  1. CDSCC trip organised (deep space tracking station) 19 attended
  2. Second trip planned to Damsmart
  3. ITPower also suggested (as have been to DS before)

Chapter Reports

  1. AP (Antennae + Propagation) – KK to ask David Powell re activities
  2. Computer Soc: in planning
  3. Comms & SP: in planning May/June
  4. Control: joint chapter with NSW – report in both places. Activities in planning
  5. SMC: in planning, focus on ECR training
  6. Photonics: DL talk planned; focus on grant writing
  7. GRSS: online seminar planned

Affinity Groups

  1. WIE/YP – shared activity National Stem group; panel discussion; Career fair?
  2. Students – online seminars; bbq

Website

  1. Add a contact form to website (not an email)
  2. Folders created for minutes, photos etc

Action Items

  • Jeta to setup an EventBrite account for the section
