  1. From Australia Council

Ambarish

AC is looking to celebrate its 35th anniversary this year and happy to receive suggestions/ideas how to celebrate. Probably various activities at every Section level, etc

In 1972 the first Australian section in NSW was formed and NSW Section will celebrate next year the 50th anniversary.

  1. Treasurer's Report and Section Budget

Russell Gentle / Financial report

The Section is in a very healthy financial position (total asset >$27k).

With Covid restrictions relaxing, we are looking to use these funds for the benefit of members.

  1. Membership development Update

Ross Summerfield

431 members in the ACT per June 10, 2021.
Ross did send a membership breakdown to exCom

  1. Professional Activities Update :

Sharon Lim

Tomorrow Friday 11 June: DamSmart visit, Sharon is unable to attend, Jeta will take the lead (how many attendees?).

Suggestion for next visit: Dale suggests a visit to ITP Renewable Consultancy to their Battery testing lab located at UC on 22nd July. An eNotice should be sent soon.

  1. Activities (Chapters, LM, TISP around the table)

Fanbao (SMC): 5x seminars are scheduled in June/July of them 2x jointly with SC (Daoyi)

Xiuping: EoI for IGASRSS conference to be held in Brisbane, full proposal expected end of July 2021, wonders about involvement of IEEE? Ambarish suggested to add in the budget $5-10k to allow students volunteers (mainly UG) to attend the conference as volunteers from other Sections than QLD (assuming most volunteers will be local).

Khalil (UNSW0Can SB): 1 BBQ held on May 21 with about 50 persons attending and where IEEE membership was promoted.

Khalil + Aswani (SBs): intention to organise a seminar + a social event at ANU in September. Section is happy to contribute to cost.

Fouad (TISP):

  • gave 2x presentations at Telopea Park School on May 28 and June 1st to scholars from Y 7 to 9 on Light and Photonics and use in daily life (celebrating the UNESCO International Day of Light on 16 may). Both presentations were attended each by 70-80 scholars.
  • We need to prepare presentations on the use of TryEngineering website and contact schools to present
  • Registered to CMA Conference scheduled on Saturday August 7 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Will give a prize of $200. Fouad expressed interest in giving a presentation about IEEE assistance program to schools through TryEngineering. Help is welcome (so far Dale, Russell, Aimee are happy to help and attend at least partially).

Aimee: A joint WIE/YP activity is in the planning

Lily:

  • Xiuping agreed to give a career talk in June for WIE
  • Four technical talks have been booked in July and August. Topics are related to space communication, navigation, control and software system. They will be reported by SMC  and/or CS.
  • I have applied to be the AGI STK education partner and succeeded. It can be used to develop some visualisations for space mission demonstration. I wonder if it could support IEEE kids education or anything else. Fouad suggested to propose to schools and to put on display during the CMA conference.

Jue (SB-GRSS): one activity in the planning late June or July

Hemant (CIS):

A conference is held 28-6 till 1-7 (online) and all CIS members are eligible for a free registration. Section will contribute to CIS Society membership for students interested to attend. An eNotice should be sent soon to all Section students.

Expect an invited speaker for an online seminar in late July or August.
