Emotional Intelligence
Aristotle couldn’t have foreseen a time in future when his words would prove prophetic when he
spoke of educating the heart in addition to educating the mind. It has been proved time and
again that IQ is no determiner or indicator of success in life. There is that essential element
called life skills or people skills which is increasingly emphasized and seen as indispensable
to ensuring the social, mental and emotional well-being of individuals. Children’s social
competence directly correlates to their well-being and adaptability in adulthood.
The aim of the webinar is to introduce students to the nuances of social emotional learning which
is as essential as technical skills are to succeed in life and to live a life that promises contentment
and happiness. Engagement with various aspects of social emotional learning sees the student
appreciate the necessity of being socially competent.
Academic and professional success are predicated on how well one is able to cope with the
vicissitudes in life. Social emotional learning aims to teach certain skills that will surely come in
useful later in life.
This is a session that is introductory in nature and aims to educate members of the audience with
regard to what social emotional learning is all about and why it is important in the scheme of
things.
