The IEEE Intelligent Vehicles Symposium is a premier annual technical forum sponsored by the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society (ITSS). It brings together researchers and practitioners from universities, industry, and government agencies worldwide to share and discuss the latest advances in theory and technology related to intelligent vehicles. Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, this year’s 32nd conference (IV21) was held fully virtually during July 11-17, 2021. The IV21 Program Committee accepted 220 full papers out of 446 submissions for an acceptance rate of 49.3 percent. All paper presentations were pre-recorded by the authors for on-demand viewing on the IV21’s portal site. The program also included 21 workshops and tutorials that were held live via Zoom. For the workshops, 56 papers out of 110 submissions were accepted, and a total of 187 presentations were made. The conference highlight was the plenary session, a live broadcast from Japan, the U.S. and Germany, featuring 3 distinguished speakers. IV21 attracted over 1,900 participants and was a great success.
