HackTron v1.0 – RISEUP Day 03 - Game Development Industry and It's Startups
The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus has organized "HackTron v1.0" powered by 99x, the first-ever Virtual Game Development Bootcamp and Hackathon in Sri Lanka to impart knowledge on game development and to develop related practical skills through an analytical background for undergraduates, fresh intern undergraduates, and all other enthusiasts, making a new impetus to the game development industry in Sri Lanka.
To enhance that aim, we have planned to launch the project; “HackTron v1.0” with highly motivated participation of over 30 universities in Sri Lanka through 90 - degree programs related to the Information and Communication Industry under two main chapters as Bootcamp and Hackathon. We have used Facebook live, Twitch, YouTube, and Zoom platforms to conduct this entire phase.
Our key goals for this project were:
- To broaden the game development community in Sri Lanka
- Encouraging young undergraduates who are interested in the game development industry
- Provide an opportunity for undergraduates to enter the industry
- Supporting game development companies by creating highly skilled game developers
- Creating a collaborative space to build a community in the game development industry
- Making a new revival in the game development industry in Sri Lanka and winning the global stage.
After the Bootcamp and the semi-final round of the Hackathon, it consists of 3 continuous days of start-up sessions program; “Riseup-Industrial Talk with Entrepreneurs”. The 3rd day of the “Riseup” program happened on the 31st of October 2021. Even though Dr.Tharanga Gunarathne was supposed to be the moderator, he was unable to attend the session for an unavoidable reason. Therefore, it was moderated by Neranjana Rashmi, who is a member of the program. Mr.Yasith Sirisena from Prodigi Interactive and Mr. Ravindu Cooray from Ram Studios were the panelists of the program and they mainly discussed the topics of the game development industry and its startups. Moreover, they expressed their experiences, beginnings levels, the procedure of blooming in the industry, techniques to develop skills, advantages, and motivations for the startup with the participants.
About 60 live participants were engaged with the 3rd day of the “Riseup” program through Youtube and Facebook platforms. Throughout the session, participants asked their questions from Panelists and the panelists provided the answers with better explanations. Finally, the discussion was successfully ended by providing a new experience and a wealth of knowledge to the participants.
