Advanced Video Compression: Standards and Applications
About the Talk The talk will address the future evolution of the broadband wireless connectivity. We will describe the main pillars which allow to dramatically enhance the capacity of wireless networks, consumers’ broadband wireless experience, and service personalization. Several research topics will be covered, including easily deployable Small Cells/HetNets to add capacity when and where needed (e.g., in reference to hot spot traffic areas such as public venues/stadiums), smart 3D antenna techniques for deep penetration into buildings and intelligent content delivery over wireless.
Biography: Doru Calin is the Director of High Performance Wireless Technologies and Networks within Bell Labs, at Alcatel-Lucent, Murray Hill, New Jersey. He also serves as an adjunct Professor at Columbia University in New York City. He holds 20 granted patents and over 20 patents filed and pending, and has published over 60 papers in scientific journals, book chapters, and refereed conferences. Dr. Calin has received a number of major awards, including two Bell Labs President’s Gold Awards, four Bell Labs Teamwork Awards, and the Motorola 3GPP standard award. His current responsibilities include design of modern broadband wireless systems, creation of high value wireless services and performance analysis.
