Enhancing the participation of girls of Bule Hora in STEM courses of Bule Hora University
Pre-University STEM Program for the girls of Bule Hora
We (IEEE Student Branch of Bule Hora University) organize a pre-university program in Bule Hora University, Bule Hora, Ethiopia through our IEEE Student Branch of Bule Hora University. This program is intended for enhancing the participation of local girls of Bule Hora town in the STEM courses of the university. We motivate the girl students of Bule Hora town for the STEM programs of Bule Hora University. In the current project, we target the girl students of class ten, eleven and twelve of Bule Hora. In this project, all the three high schools of Bule Hora participated. Altogether 437 girl students participated in this project.
Through our IEEE student branch we provide basic ideas about STEM, benefits of STEM, and several other motivating items. We also show them videos of famous female STEM professionals, scientists and engineers. The participating students show a lot of interest in the project. We take the surveys at different levels. At the beginning, we took a survey on the basic understanding of the students on STEM. Then we also checked their progress after one month. Finally, the end too we will take one more survey.
Student assessments are done using quizzes.

Agenda
We have the following goals for this project.
1. To promote STEM education and its utilities for the high school girls of Bule Hora.
2. To create awareness toward STEM education and its long term benefits for the girls of Bule Hora.
3. To provide basic ideas about the STEM fields and their applications.
4. To provide the basic resources and the knowledge on STEM education.
We have the following measurable objectives.
1. Quizzing after each teaching and training program and then evaluate them to check the progress.
2. Taking the female students to the university laboratories and providing them exposure to basic STEM ideas.
3. Taking feedback from the participating students each week to asses their level of understanding.
4. In the final session a comprehensive questionnaire will be prepared to evaluate their overall ideas on STEM education.
5. Attendance is taken in each and every teaching and training session.
