The 2021 Joint IEEE Princeton/Central Jersey and New Jersey Coast Section Holiday Gathering will be held at the Rutgers University Inn, New Brunswick, NJ, on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021. The event will start at 6 pm. The IEEE Princeton/Central Jersey Section and the IEEE New Jersey Coast Section have organized this joint event to allow volunteers from both sections to meet in person, as well as to attract members into volunteering. Please join us in recognizing the achievements of our members and their contributions to the engineering profession, our community, and the IEEE Princeton/Central Jersey and New Jersey Coast Section activities. As there was no gathering in 2020, members who have received awards since 2019 are asked to bring their plaques and/or certificates for a display so that their accomplishments may be recognized.

This gathering is free of charge to volunteers of the Princeton/Central Jersey and New Jersey Coast Sections and an accompanying guest; those in those sections who are interested in volunteering; and invited guests. Special dietary requests (other than vegetarian as there is a vegetarian entrée) must be received no later than November 30th.

***REGISTRATION CLOSES DECEMBER 6TH AT 6 PM SHARP.***

Menu:

Food will be buffet-style and will include a chicken entrée, a beef entrée, and a vegetarian entrée; a vegetable, a starch, and two salads; dinner rolls and butter; a sliced fresh fruit platter, and the dessert of the day. These will be placed on plates by a server (not self-service) to alleviate health concerns.

Beverages supplied by Rutgers include iced tea, coffee, and tea; and the Joint Sections will be purchasing wines as well (Rutgers does not have a liquor license, but we are permitted to bring our own wines.)

Notes:

  • Limited capacity - register early! Send email to John Deltuvia if you have registered but your plans change and you are unable to attend.
  • Notes on food allergies and special preferences will be passed on to the Rutgers Inn. It is the attendee's responsibility to check with the service staff.
  • Separate registration is required for an accompanying guest.
  • During dinner, beverages will be self service - an accompanying adult must supervise an underage guest.

Directions to the Rutgers Inn can be found on the web at https://inn.rutgers.edu/getting-here .
PARKING INSTRUCTIONS: Complimentary parking is provided for event attendees in LOT 82. The front desk will register guest vehicle information electronically upon check in. You will need your license plate information upon check in. Please be sure to bring that information so you can avoid having to go back out to your car. Rutgers University students and staff must check their issued permit for parking restrictions.

Topic:

O-RAN and COSMOS

The COSMOS project is aimed at design, development, and deployment of a city-scale advanced wireless testbed in order to support real-world experimentation on next-generation wireless technologies and applications.

The COSMOS architecture has a particular focus on ultra-high bandwidth and low latency wireless communication tightly coupled with edge cloud computing. The COSMOS testbed will be deployed in upper Manhattan and will consist of 40-50 advanced software-defined radio nodes along with fiber-optic front-haul and back-haul networks and edge and core cloud computing infrastructure. Researchers will be able to run experiments remotely on the COSMOS testbed by logging into a web-based portal which will provide various facilities for experiment execution, measurements, and data collection.

Biography:

is Director and Chief Technologist at WINLAB, a unit of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. He is currently focusing on O-RAN and COSMOS.  He was one of the co-PIs and a lead project engineer for ORBIT, with responsibility for development, integration and deployment of the radio grid emulator system for which the team received 2008 NSF Alexander Schwarzkopf Prize for Technological Innovation. His technical interests include experimental protocol evaluation, radio technology, software defined and cognitive radios, vehicular networking and wireless systems in general. Ivan is a Senior Member of the IEEE, member of ACM and co-founder and CTO of Upside Wireless Inc.
