Biography:
Dirk Werle is a Senior Member of IEEE and its Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, joining the IEEE in 1987. He has been a geoscientist and partner with Ærde Environmental Research for more than 30 years. He started out as a young researcher at Canada's RADARSAT Project Office in the mid 1980s after receiving his MSc in Physical Geography and Remote Sensing from McGill University in Montreal. He has worked on numerous satellite-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) projects here in Canada and overseas, involving a host of space agencies, government departments and research institutions. He is currently working as a senior Earth observation expert with the Canadian Space Agency. His talk illuminates some historic elements of radar and Canada’s RADARSAT program, notably the development of its environmental monitoring side, and highlights most recent accomplishments of the RADARSAT Constellation Mission.
