The IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section invites you to its 2021 Annual General Meeting, to be held online on Thursday, December 16th. Networking will begin at 18:00h, followed by a welcome and keynote presentation. The Annual General Meeting will commence after our CAS Awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions and volunteers involved in IEEE and CAS activities. The Annual General Meeting will be virtual to follow the IEEE and provincial regulations on holding events.
 
The event will be held over the WebEx platform. Following your registration, an email with the WebEx login details will be provided to you one day prior to the AGM.

Dirk Werle, SMIEEE

Topic:

A Long View of Canada’s RADARSAT Earth Observation Satellite Program and Connections to Atlantic Canada

Biography:

Dirk Werle is a Senior Member of IEEE and its Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, joining the IEEE in 1987. He has been a geoscientist and partner with Ærde Environmental Research for more than 30 years. He started out as a young researcher at Canada's RADARSAT Project Office in the mid 1980s after receiving his MSc in Physical Geography and Remote Sensing from McGill University in Montreal. He has worked on numerous satellite-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) projects here in Canada and overseas, involving a host of space agencies, government departments and research institutions. He is currently working as a senior Earth observation expert with the Canadian Space Agency. His talk illuminates some historic elements of radar and Canada’s RADARSAT program, notably the development of its environmental monitoring side, and highlights most recent accomplishments of the RADARSAT Constellation Mission.
