2021 EDA Summer Camp
To foster and cultivate young talents in Electronic Design Automation (EDA), CEDA sponsored National Taiwan University (NTU) to host a two-day summer camp for giving students opportunities to learn about EDA on August 12-13, 2021. The 2021 EDA Summer Camp (https://giee.ntu.edu.tw/edacamp/2021/) is the 6th edition of the annual event organized by the Graduate Institute of Electronics Engineering (GIEE) at NTU since 2016. The summer camp aims to promote EDA to the undergraduate students studying in Taiwan and encourage them to join the graduate study in the EDA area. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was held online this year.
On the first day of the program, Professor Yao-Wen Chang, IEEE CEDA President and Dean of EECS College at NTU, gave a morning keynote speech introducing EDA Challenges and Opportunities. In the afternoon, Professors Jie-Hong Roland Jiang, Jiun-Lang Huang, Iris Hui-Ru Jiang, and James Chien-Mo Li gave a series of lectures on various EDA topics in the VLSI design flow. Also, several GIEE alumni from Synopsys, Cadence, MediaTek, TSMC, Siemens EDA, and Maxeda Technology, interactively shared their experiences and answered questions from the participants in parallel sessions.
Besides the technical sessions, the summer camp program included a mini-EDA contest. The participating students formed teams to solve a problem, which was contributed by engineers from Synopsys this year. The students spent the first-day evening and the second-day morning for the competition. Their results were presented and evaluated in the afternoon of the second day. Several awards were given to the winning teams.
The summer camp attracted 73 students and was supported by 16 participants from the industry and 6 faculty members. The students gave fairly good feedback about the EDA camp and expressed the helpfulness to their decision about future graduate study.
