- Our last meeting was a format meeting in December with a written agenda. This is our first meeting with newly elected executive members.
- Accomplishments in 2021 despite current pandemic:
- Award submissions outlined in September minutes,
- MGA award (for Chad), one award successful to date
- Potential for future awards identified, but calendar windows have closed
- Additional (joint) Technical Societies formed (see below).
- The fact these are joint is a procedural detail. Full benefits nevertheless.
- We have 11 TS chapters.
- Required two YP events held in 2021.
- Dan gave a YP talk on December 2nd. Note:
- Slides for discussion of membership and trends (below)
- Not well promoted, and there is an eEvents lesson learned.
- Another slide showed less than 10% of CS jobs are engineering-ish; CS jobs are dominantly ecommerce related.

- I recall it was BYU, UoU, USU, and WSU.

- Successfully bringing on officers for 2022:
- Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, YP Chair (appointed due to missing election cycle), WIE Chair.
- Support of i-ETC at UVU in 2022
- Support of SusTech 2022 in LA.
- Pending opportunities:
- Renewed in-person or hybrid ExCom meetings in mid-2022.
- Formation of a Consultants Network https://ieeeusa.org/careers/consultants/about-aicncc/
- Tyler Jaynes contacted me about forming a Nanotechnology Council Chapter on December 12.
- On December 15th, he emailed about a proposed conference with a spreadsheet budget.
- Formation of Life Members Affinity Group
- Additional high-level award submissions
- Better integration of student chapters
- Better integration of technical societies chapters & student chapters
- In-person report to ExCom once per year
- Hold one ExCom per year at each university?
- We have opportunity to host SusTech again in the future
- Potential plan and project to meet IEEE objectives for 202: brain storming.

Be aware that membership typically grows to a peak each year after the first of each year (in the January report) due to our renewal cycle. January 2021 R1-6 HGM was 140K. January 2020 R1-6 HGM was 147K.
Region 6 November 2021 dropped year over year in all membership levels with biggest loss in HGM.

- “History Committee Chair Janina Mazierska requested the Milestones Subcommittee to propose revisions to the Milestones Program Guidelines to specify that names are strongly discouraged but permitted with proper justification, and to specify the conditions for those exceptions.” Vote in December.
- History Committee meeting Thursday 12/16/21.
- Dan sat in (as corresponding member) with our R6 advocate (voting member).
- New language (Lengthy, and I can read it aloud at our ExCom if requested) passed at 3:26 PM MST.
- Our advocate should be able move proposal forward.
- Our Milestone was discussed during the 12/14/21 IEEE/SCV Consultants Network talk “The Pixel, and The Great Digital Convergence” by Dr. Alvy Ray Smith co-founded Pixar and Altamira Software, the first Director of Computer Graphics at Lucasfilm, first Graphics Fellow at Microsoft; Alvy received two technical Academy Awards.

- Finally, I want to thank all members for their valuable contribution towards IEEE Utah Section.
