Student talk Series 99-GPS in Aviation System
Ms. Aparna A Nair, S4, Computer Science Engineering student of UKFCET.
The talk was based on the topic,
"GPS in Aviation System". The virtual talk was started with an introduction to GPS as it is a space based radio navigation system consisting of a constellation of satellite broadcasting navigation signals and a network of ground stations and satellite control stations used for monitoring and control. GPS is operated and maintained by the Department of Defense(DoD). The Federal Aviation Administration oversees the use of GPS in civil aviation and receives problem reports from aviation users. Then she explained about the history and development of Global Positioning System. From history, GPS was initiated as a joint civil military technical program in 1973. Later she discussed about the applications of GPS in Aviation. Aviators throughout the world use the Global Positioning System to increase the safety and efficiency of flight. With its accurate, continous and global capabilities. GPS offers seamless satellite navigation services that satisfy many of the requirements for aviation users. She also added an animation of the working of GPS tracking system in aviation application. She concluded the session by saying the pros and cons of GPS using in aviation application. And the session was beneficial to the entire participants.
