Solar Energy & Energy Storage Research at WT  – 9:10 am

Dr. Emad Manla joined the College of Engineering as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering in 2019. Prior to that, he worked at the University of New Haven as a Visiting Assistant Professor for three consecutive years where he taught a wide variety of courses in Electrical Engineering and Calculus. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the American University of Sharjah in 2007. He received his M.S. and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in 2009 and 2015 respectively. 

Microgrid Research at TTU – 10:30am

Dr. Stephen B. Bayne received his PhD, MS and BS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University.    His research interests at Texas Tech are Power Electronics, Power Semiconductor Devices, Pulsed Power and Renewable Energy.  Dr. Bayne is a faculty member of ARL South for the Power and Energy research at Texas Tech University.  Dr. Bayne will be presenting on his Microgrid research.

Doug Loomis is a graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State University and earned a Master of Education degree from West Texas A&M University. He and his wife Gisele, a retired teacher, have been married 32 years and have two grown children. Their daughter Jordan attends pharmacy school at the University of Texas at Austin, and their son Braydan recently received a master’s in finance degree from UT. Mr. Loomis was named AISD interim superintendent in October 2018 and the lone finalist for superintendent in early March of 2019. Trustees finalized his appointment on March 27, 2019. Mr. Loomis will be joining us to present on the AmTech Career Academy.

 

TSPE Update – 2:40pm

Trish Smith, CAE and Jennifer McEwan, Ph. D. will be joining us to present the recent Texas state legislative session and its impact on the practice of engineering in Texas.  Trends in other states as well as political tides in Texas and their potential impacts on the profession will be discussed. Trish B. Smith, CAE (Certified Association Executive) is the Executive Director of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.  Trish has been with TSPE for 20 years overseeing the programs and staff of the organization. She is also the Executive Director and a Trustee of the Texas Engineering Foundation and manages the TSPE Political Action Committee for Engineers (PACE). She is currently serving a third term as a member of the NSPE Executive Committee, Board of Directors and House of Delegates. Jennifer McEwan, Ph. D. is widely known for her transportation expertise and knowledge of project development and advancement. Prior to founding Grace & McEwan Consulting, Jennifer served as Senior Policy Director at the international law firm Greenberg Traurig. She currently serves as TSPE Legislative & Governmental Affairs Director, Treasurer of the Transportation Advocates of Texas, and policy director for the Texas Transportation Alliance.

Illegal Dumping Task Force – 4:00 pm

Donny Hooper has over 24 years of municipal government experience, serving in many areas of Public Works. He served as Director of Public Works for the city of Pampa for over 22 years, joined the City of Amarillo municipality in July of 2018 and in February of 2021 became the Director of Public Works for the City of Amarillo. Donny will be joining us to day to discuss the city’s Illegal Dumping Task Force.
