Our speaker for this month’s meeting will be Tom Wind.  He will discuss the development of wind energy in Iowa.  This will be an in-person meeting with the local chapter of the IEEE Power & Energy Society.

Tom has been involved with wind power for the last 25 years. He will discuss the very humble start of wind power in Iowa, the technical problems it has encountered as it grew, and why it has become such a dominant source of power in Iowa. He will also discuss the technical and societal issues that intermittent sources of power like wind and solar will encounter as the US works toward a carbon-free electric grid.

We will be meeting at the Tavern II Pizza & Pasta Grill, 1755 50th St, West Des Moines, IA (across from Lowe’s).  You may order a meal from the menu before the meeting or only attend the presentation.
