Off-Shore Wind Intro - Dominic Reuter/Katie Foster(Kiewit)

Off Shore wind development is booming in the North East of the US.  In this session we will review the rapid growth that we’ve seen in this industry, show what projects are in progress and what the future holds for the NorthEast.

Biography:

Katie Foster-

Katie is the Director for Offshore Substations for Kiewit this includes providing oversight and direction for offshore substation projects. This also includes various business development, estimating and design aspects. Throughout her career she has severed various technical and management roles in the power and industrial industry. She has been with Kiewit for 12 years and is a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer. She obtained her BSEE from the University of Missouri-KC in 2010.

 

Dominic Reuter-

Dominic is a Lead Electrical Engineer with Kiewit currently working on Offshore substation projects. This includes managing major equipment contracts and technical design management Throughout his career he has severed various technical and supervisory roles in the power and industrial industry. He has been with Kiewit for 8 years and is a Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer. He obtained his BSEE from the University of North Dakota in 2012.

Power Quality Aspects - Hasan Ali (Univ of Memphis)

With large amounts renewables energy comes power quality issues and that must be designed for the maintain reliability in the region.   Dr. Hasan Ali from the University of Memphis, will review the challenges that come with integrating such large amounts of renewable power into the grid.

Biography:

Dr. Mohd Hasan Ali received his Ph.D. degree in electrical and electronic engineering from Kitami Institute of Technology, Kitami, Japan, in 2004. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Memphis, USA, where he leads the Electric Power and Energy Systems (EPES) Laboratory. His research interests include smart-grid and microgrid systems, renewable energy systems, energy storage systems, load forecasting in smart buildings, electric vehicle charging system & station, and cybersecurity issues in modern power grids. Dr. Ali has more than 200 publications including 3 books, 4 book chapters, 3 patents, 67 top ranked journal papers, 99 peer-reviewed international conference papers and 20 national conference papers. He serves as the Editors of the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, IEEE Power Engineering Letters, Frontiers in Energy Research, and IET-Generation, Transmission and Distribution (GTD) journal. Dr. Ali is a Senior Member of the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES). Also, he is the Chair of the PES of the IEEE Memphis Section.
