Project Selection & its Pre -Feasibility


Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Development Program (TEDP) primarily focuses on training and development need of S&T
entrepreneurs in a specific technology area (for example, Leather, Plastic, Electronics & Communication, Fragrance & Flavour,
Instrumentation, Sports Goods, Biotechnology, IT Computer Hardware, Food Processing, Bio-medical Equipment, Glass &
Ceramics, Jute Products, Sustainable Building Materials, Herbs & Medical Plants Processing, etc.). The participants are provided
with hands-on training in indigenous technologies developed by R&D institutions that are available for commercial exploitation.

Prof. J Ram Kumar mesmerized the participants with his informative note on the topic “How to Identify Business Opportunities and Business Opportunities Identification: Criteria of selection & Sources of Information” that was highly appreciated and admired with very good comments. The term 'a dog for a walk' dragged the attention of all, in which he made the participants familiarized with the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur i.e. motivation, good behavior, leadership, risk taking, critical thinking etc. He discussed perceived opportunity with organization of resources and how to produce new ideas to convert into opportunity. Wonderful innovations like stretchable bucket, small thumb tool for holding pages, nail holder, plug with a hole, cup holder and many more won the hearts of the participants. Prof Kumar also elaborated significant strengths and challenges in this particular area. His amazing session fuelled the fire of creativity and innovation in all listeners. He also emphasized to keep focusing on wants and needs of the customers to find the ideas to convert into opportunities. The session was very informative and appreciated as well. Prof R K Dwivedi, Director of FOE&CS extended his warm thanks to Prof J Ram Kumar for gracing the event with his wonderful note.

Biography:

Professor J. Ramkumar is currently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Design
Program at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. He joined as an Assistant Professor in the
Department of Mechanical Engineering in Dec 2003. He earned his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering
from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. His research concentrated on micro and nano
machining and finishing. He has also worked on Tribology, Coatings and corrosion for both engineering
and bio medical applications. Before joining IIT Kanpur, after his B. Tech. from NIT Trichy, he joined MICOBOSCH as a Technical graduate trainee. He pursued his post-doctoral research in the area of intermetallic
composites machining and fabrication at Osaka University, Japan. He is recipient of several fellowships
such as Young Engineer award of ISAC, India and Gopal Das Bhandari Best teacher Award, by IIT Kanpur,
recently honored with “Eminent Engineer award” from IEI, India and Young Alumni Achiever Award from
NIT Trichy, and many more.
He has published over 200 articles in the peer-reviewed international journals and has delivered over 80
lectures in the international conferences. His h-index of 23 which endorses his high research productivity.
His five patents are commercialized, total number of patents in his name being 69. He has procured a
funding of over US $ 4 million during his career at IIT Kanpur Currently, and is the Project Investigator of
MedTech facility being developed in IIT Kanpur, funded by BIRAC, DBT, India. He is reviewer of over
twenty-five technical journals from Elsevier, Blackwell Publishing Inc., Wiley, Springer, Hindawi, Highwire,
MRS India/INSA, ACS Publications, Institution of Civil Engineers and American Society of Metals.

Prof Neeraj basically discussed ‘Consensus Algorithms for Block chain Technology: Entrepreneurship and Business Opportunities’. He elucidated transactions with and without block chain, how the data is tamper proof, what does a block look like?, block chain terminologies i.e. Bitcoin, proof of work (POW), proof of capacity (POC) and many more terminologies , techniques and guidelines. This was an interactive session with full of useful information.

Prof. Neeraj Kumar (SMIEEE) (2019, 2020, 2021 highly-cited researcher from WoS) is working as a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed to be University), Patiala (Pb.), India. He is also adjunct professor at Asia University, Taiwan, King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Newcatle University, UK. He has published more than 400 technical research papers in top-cited journals and conferences which are cited more than 24,242 times from well-known researchers across the globe with current h-index of 85 (Google scholar: He has guided many research scholars leading to Ph.D. and M.E./M.Tech. His research is supported by funding from various competitive agencies across the globe. He has won the best papers award from IEEE Systems Journal in 2018, in 2020, and IEEE ICC 2018, Kansas-city in 2018. He has also won best paper award from Elsevier JNCA in 2021 and IEEE Comsoc IWCMC 2021. He has won the outstanding leadership award from IEEE Trsutcom in 2021. Moreover, He won the best researcher award from parent organization every year from last eight consecutive years.
