AI powered App development with MIT App inventor
MIT App Inventor is an educational tool to learn computational thinking and computational action principles through building mobile apps. It offers an easy to use interface for young app developers to develop apps for android smartphones. This multi-session workshop was split into two modules. The first module covered the basics of app development such as using interactive elements like buttons and textboxes, multimedia elements like sound and images, and the process of testing, building and sharing their apps. In the second module, the children learned how to leverage pre-trained AI models in their apps. They learned to use MIT appinventor’s AI extension to train an image classifier and implement it in their app projects. In this workshop, all participants were encouraged to share the apps they built during the show and tell sessions.
