Much attention is given by utility management to Distribution System Reliability, and Customers have come to believe they are entitled to it! This seminar will discuss the wide-ranging aspects of reliability. After reviewing the common reliability indices, we will look at fault prevention and fault mitigation; planning for reliability; design for reliability; Reliability Improvement Programs (RIP), including Asset Management (AM) and Storm Protection Programs (SPP); Distribution Automation (DA); Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS); and Power Quality.

Mike Kotch, PE of Tampa Electric Company (TECO), an Emera Company

Biography:

Mike Kotch is a Principal Engineer in the Distribution Engineering and Asset Management Department at Tampa Electric.  He graduated from the Univ. of South Florida with a BSEE in 1985, and an MSEE in 2013.  Since 1986, Mike has held various positions at Tampa Electric in the Energy Supply and Energy Delivery departments.  Much of his career has been in the design, construction, and operation of distribution, substation, and transmission systems up to 230 kiloVolts. 

His career has included considerable focus on Power Quality and Reliability, including EMF, for Tampa Electric and its customers.  He has served on various utility and technical society PQ and EMF committees, and held the status of Certified Power Quality Professional.

Mike is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida.
