Innovate 4 Menstrual Waste Management
The “Menstrual Waste Management Hackathon - 2022” has been organized by Computational Intelligence Society (CIS), Student Chapter – GRIET in association with TSIC and Water Aid. Innovate 4 Menstrual Waste Management 2022 Hackathon in GRIET has broken the silence among peers about menstruation, which is unfortunately still considered taboo even among the present generation. IEEE-CIS in association with TSIC has taken this initiative to come up with environment-friendly solutions for menstrual waste. The hackathon aims to find solutions for the treatment and disposal of used menstrual absorbents in a manner that is safe for the users (girls and women), environment friendly, and can be up-scaled within current waste management systems and processes. A total of 7 teams participated in this hackathon, each consisting of 3 participants with at least one girl in their team. Initially, participants were given time to get ready for what they needed to work on. There were 3 categories in which they could showcase their ideas and skills. Each team came up with their ideas and presented them to the judging panel. The teams which took part have immensely dwelled on the topic to bring out their inner engineer for creating the best solutions and gained a lot of insights from the judge panel present there.
