Electromagnetic Safety Issues in Microwave/Millimeter-Wave Systems: From Circuit to Electromagnetic Perspectives

Abstract: With the continuous progress of industrial civilization from mechanization to informatization and intelligence, the understanding and cognition of electronic information systems are undergoing revolutionary changes. This talk targets the electromagnetic safety issues in microwave and millimeter-wave systems. It starts from the current situation of electromagnetic compatibility research in electronic information systems, considering the connotation and correlation of related basic concepts such as electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic environmental effects, and then focuses on the importance of electromagnetic compatibility and electromagnetic safety. Combined with the characteristics of intelligent, networked and electromagnetic information systems in the future, the key technologies of electromagnetic interference characterization and detection and electromagnetic compatibility quantitative design are finally introduced.

Information Metasurface Antennas and Systems

Abstract: In this talk, I will briefly introduce the concepts and principles of information metasurfaces and emphasize their unique features to manipulate electromagnetic waves and process the digital information directly. Then I will present the recent work on information metasurface antennas, in which the feeding source and metasurface share the same aperture. Particularly, I give the system-level applications of the information metasurfaces, in which the metasurface is not only an antenna but also a digital-RF system.
