IEEE MVSR SB Computer Society Student Chapter in collaboration with ACM Student Chapter, MVSR Libre and MVSR Centre of Excellence in AI and ML(BLACKBUCK) conducted a webinar on “Ethical Hacking Workshop” from 22nd to 24th June, 2022. The main intent of this workshop was to get the participants acquainted with Ethical Hacking.

The meeting was commenced by B. Anoushika, Events Head, ACM MVSR by welcoming the speaker, attendees and everyone present at the event. Later, Dr. Akhil Khare, Professor, CSED, MVSREC addressed the gathering where he talked about the relevance of ethical hacking in the modern world and by extension the importance of the workshop for the participants. Then, Mrs. N. Sabitha, ACM MVSR SBC introduced the speaker of the day, Mr. Kartheek Chandra.

The speaker started the workshop with a brief introduction about ethical hacking and cyber security and their value in the    industry of data. The participants came to know about the different types of hardware tools which top and professional hackers use and the mentor explained each of them in a crystal-clear manner and also talked about their use. The speaker also explained about the different types of hackers like White-hat hackers, Black-hat hacker and Grey-hat hackers. The participants were advised not to choose a dark path in their career by reaching out to the black and grey hat hacking type. 

On the second day, the participants were advised to install the software in their individual laptops and were guided in its use. The participants then learned about google hacking database and entered into the second phase of hacking. After everyone was comfortable with the topic, they were taught about ‘social engineering’ which deals with various types of online frauds happen on a daily basis, mainly in social media and in email. The participants were also taught ‘system hacking’ where they were able learn how to hack a system by filling one’s IP address after which they were capable of knowing the basic data about the system.

The last day of the workshop started off with the interesting topic called bug bounty hunting wherein the participants got to learn about the ways to find bugs in one’s website or mainly in the server of  an organization. The participants were introduced to web application hacking which involved 2 topics

  i)SQL injection

ii)OTP bypass

After this they got to learn about the car hacking  and the ways used in opening the lock of a car by using a device called ‘Roll Jam’ which basically records the signal from the remote that we use to open a car. Finally, the speaker ended his lecture with a Q&A session in which he clarified all the doubts of the students of the students regarding Ethical hacking.

All in all, the 3-day workshop on ethical hacking was very helpful for all the participants during the course of which the learned about the various frauds and threats which take place around the world of internet and the ways to tackle them.

The workshop was concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rafae Ahmed, Publicity Head, IEEE MVSR SB who thanked the speaker for the day Mr Kartheek Chandra for his valuable time and to all the participants for attending the event.
