George Eastman Museum Technology Vault Private Tour
Todd Gustavson, Curator of the George Eastman Museum’s Technology Collection will host and conduct a tour of the museum's technology collection. Among other artifacts, the collection contains many items representing camera design innovation and milestones. He will discuss their importance to the practice of photography, the engineering and scientific achievements required to produce them, and their impact on the companies involved in their creation. Todd is an expert on the history and the technology of Kodak’s early digital cameras and many other items in the museum’s vast collection. We will see items rarely seen by the public on this private tour. Todd will lend his special insight gained from extensive research, and meeting with engineers, scientists, and technicians who developed the technology.

George Eastman Museum Private Tour of Technology "Vault"
Todd Gustavson, Curator of the George Eastman Museum’s Technology Collection will host and conduct a tour of the museum's technology collection. We will see items rarely seen by the public on this private tour. Todd will lend his special insight gained from years of experience and research, which includes knowledge gained from his meetings with engineers, scientists, and technicians who developed the technology.
Biography:
Todd Gustavson is Curator of Technology at George Eastman Museum in Rochester, New York, where he is responsible for the cataloging, storage, and maintenance of more than 18,000 artifacts, one of the world’s largest collections of photographic and cinematic equipment. He is the author of the books Camera: A History of Photography from Daguerreotype to Digital, 500 Cameras, and Curious Cameras has curated or co-curated a dozen exhibitions for the museum, including the Kodak camera at 125, A History of Photography, and critically acclaimed traveling exhibition The Brownie at 100. Gustavson was instrumental in the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) designation of the Technology collection as a Historical Heritage site, in July 2015.
Gustavson came to the George Eastman Museum in 1988, first serving as a curatorial assistant, then as collection archivist in 1994, and promoted to collection curator in 1998. Before coming to the museum, he served as a staff photographer at Chautauqua Institution in Upstate New York. Gustavson received his B.F.A. in Photography from Louisiana Tech University in 1980.
