About the speaker:

Javeria Sajid, serving as the Joint Secretary at IEEE STB, ZHCET, and Head of Operations at WIE Affinity Group, IEEE, ZHCET. She is a recipient of the MITACS Globalink Research Award 2022. She is working on ‘Demand Response programs in Industrial Buildings’ under the supervision of Dr. Mohd. Ouf, at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada.

Bhumika Sharma is a student at ZHCET, AMU. She is a recipient of the MITACS Globalink Research Award 2022. She is currently working as an Opal Blockchain data donation research intern at Dr. John Kildea Lab at McGill University, Montreal, Quebec Canada. She's currently serving as the Chairperson of IEEE Computer Society ZHCET, AMU, and is also a Coordinator of Web development at IEEE Student branch ZHCET AMU.

Abdullah Alvi is a student at ZHCET, AMU. He is a recipient of the MITACS Globalink Research Award and the Sir Syed Global Scholar Award (SSGSA). He is currently working as a Power Electronics research intern at Dr. Martin Ordonez's Lab at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. He's currently serving as the Treasurer of IEEE ZHCET, AMU, and is also a core member of IEEE UP Section's Student Activity Committee - 2022.

IEEE STB ZHCET, AMU, organized a session for the guidance of the juniors and to make them familiar with international research opportunities like MITACS GRI, where 6 of the office bearers got selected for the summer research in Canada 2022: Javeria Sajid (Joint Secretary) at Concordia University, Montreal, Abdullah Alvi (Treasurer) at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Bhumika Sharma (Coordinator Web Development) at McGill University, Montreal, Shaista Rehan (Coordinator Web Development) at Memorial University of New Foundland, Ifrah Andleeb (Coordinator Event Conceptualization) at Ecole de Technologie Superieure, Montreal and Mohd. Zain (Co-Coordinator Event Conceptualization) at University de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke.

The session was hosted by Asmer Hamid Ali (Co-Coordinator Industry Interaction), and attended by around 50 students. It began with the welcome address by the branch counselor, Mr. Mohd. Zaid, where he told the audience, about the importance of student branches like IEEE at ZHCET, and how it helped in the selection procedure.

Then the speakers took the mic and explained what is MITACS, its benefits, the eligibility of the program, the application procedure, required documents, and how to prepare a strong application beforehand.

After an hour-long session, there was a Q&A session where juniors asked various doubts about the program, and one of the questions included other international opportunities like MITACS.
