Kevin Damron, PE

Biography:
Kevin Damron received his BS in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky in 2001, a ‘Power Systems Protection and Relaying’ certificate from the University of Idaho in 2009, and a Masters of Engineering - Transmission and Distribution Engineering from Gonzaga University in 2020. In 2002, he joined Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. as a power engineer in the research and development division. After leaving SEL, Kevin worked at a consulting firm providing engineering consulting services. Before joining Qualus in 2022 as a Director of Engineering, he worked for Avista Utilities for 12-years as a Principal Protection Engineer. Kevin has broad experience in the field of power system operations, maintenance, and protection and has authored/coauthored several papers on protective relaying. Kevin is a registered professional engineer in several states, an adjunct professor at Gonzaga University, and is an IEEE Senior Member.
Amber Orr, PE; SMIEEE

Biography:
Amber E Orr is a Professional Engineer practicing in the State of Washington, USA. She is a Senior Member of IEEE, is on the Executive Board for Region 6 and has served on the Executive committee for the Spokane Section and Region 6 since 2005. She received the Special Directors Award for Excellence in Performance in 2019 and was the only recipient in the Western Hemisphere of the IEEE MGA Leadership Award in 2018. She serves on several committees in addition to her Board positions. She has a history of working in both the Industrial and Power & Energy sectors. She is also an Electrical Forensic Engineer. She is currently working independently in the Blockchain space in addition to her work with Utilities as a forensic engineer and is actively working with IEEE-USA in a volunteer role on the Professional Activities Committees for Engineers (PACE).

Additional Speaker Bios:
Max Hernandez-Brito
Max Hernandez-Brito is currently a substation engineer at Grant PUD where he focuses on substation design, retrofitting equipment, and updating networking equipment for substations. With his prior experience as telecommunications engineer, he has an unique skillset that has enabled him to provide interdepartmental support for various substation communication and firewall projects. Max's academic career began at Wenatchee Valley College where he was active in the student community with the College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) and was the ASB Vice-President before obtaining his science transfer degree in 2014 and entering the electrical engineering program at Gonzaga. During his time at GU Max worked as an Smart Antenna & Radio Lab (SARL) intern, was the GU IEEE Student Branch Vice-President, and cofounded the Robosub student club. He enjoyed working with club members to create events that developed engineering skills and/or provided networking opportunites for their fellow students until his graduation in 2017. Now a devoted husband and doting father, he enjoys boating, camping, and cooking for his family and friends. He also enjoys volunteering to help promote STEM careers & professional development skills for both students and young professionals.
Stacie Maier, PE
Stacie Maier graduated from University of Idaho in 2006 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and from Whitworth University in 2022 with a MBA, she is a licensed professional electrical engineer with over 15 years of experience in the energy sector working in Portland General Electric, EPS Consulting, Schweitzer Engineering and Avista. Throughout her career she has worked in a variety of roles including as a substation engineer, product manager, consulting engineer and most recently has had the opportunity to lead teams in project management, electric operations and key accounts with Avista. She enjoys working with her community and is the Women in Engineering Chair for the IEEE Spokane and is a Board Member for the Boys and Girls Club of Spokane County as well as the Downtown Spokane Partnership. Stacie and her husband are also small business owners of a hard cider company in Liberty Lake.
