Shan Wey will discuss the lessons she has learned throughout her career and how choices she made, opportunities she took advantage of, and the people she met along the way have influenced her career. She will share why working hard is not enough, but you must be curious, try something scary, believe in yourself and step up to lead.

Join us to hear from Shan Wey, as she discusses the lessons she has learned throughout her career and how choices she made, opportunities she took advantage of, and the people she met along the way have influenced her career. She will share why working hard is not enough, but you must be curious, try something scary, believe in yourself and step up to lead.

Biography:

Jun Shan Wey is a Distinguished Engineer in the Technology Strategy, Architecture and Planning team at Verizon. After receiving her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineer from the University of Maryland, College Park, she has devoted her career to optical communications research and development. Her current work focuses on standardization and industry ecosystem development for high-speed broadband optical access and transport networks, as well as 5G video media verticals.

She participates in many standards groups, including FSAN, ITU-T, IEEE, 3GPP, ATIS, and has served as an editor for several ITU-T PON standards. Shan has been active in the OFC conference program as a 2020 Program Chair, a 2022 General Chair, the 2022 John Tyndall Award Selection Committee Chair, and a current member of the OFC Steering Committee. She also co-chairs the IEEE INGR Optics Working Group. Shan is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Fellow of Optica.
